Let me just start by saying that this is one of the best restaurants in the area, especially if you are looking for something outside of the ordinary burgers and fries. One thing we simply don't see enough of is a variety of cultural foods in western PA. Located in Settler's Ridge, near the new(est) Cinemark, this place has the perfect spot for moviegoers or shoppers up on top of the mini mountain. Let me tell you, I have never had a bad meal at Thai Foon.
Though this place is considered to be "Asian Fusion" you can get an incredible Thai meal here any time.
My usual go to at Thai Foon is the Pad Thai. For those who aren't sure what this is, pad Thai is the national dish of Thailand. It is a bed of rice noodles with a sweet sauce, with egg mixed in, topped with crushed peanuts, bean sprouts, cilantro and often other veggies or spices. As a sea food eater, I always choose the shrimp.

Before the Pad Thai I start with an order of the summer rolls, which is a healthier take on the egg rolls you see at Chinese restaurants. Instead of being fried, the rice paper is wrapped around shredded lettuce, Thai basil, vermicelli noodles, cucumber, mint and shrimp. It also comes with a zesty peanut sauce to dip in. I'm craving these just thinking about it.
The last time I visited however, I came with my boyfriend Cory, and we were feeling extra adventurous. We went with the spring rolls, instead of the summer rolls. These were good but I prefer the summer rolls any day. I felt like I needed a curry in my life that day. Craving something sweet, I asked the waitress for her recommendation. She directed me towards the yellow curry which was super wonderful. It had a bit of a kick but had pineapple, coconut milk, and yams, which made the dish perfectly sweet. I also opted for the coconut rice which is a dollar extra but paired perfectly with the sweet sauce. Oh and the leftovers were possibly even better the next day.
Cory ordered something I had never had before a honey walnut chicken. And man was it good. He also got the coconut rice and "borrowed" some of my sauce for it. He loved and it reminded me of almost a dessert chicken, because of the sweet glaze it was under.
A couple other noteworthy items on their menu:
- Hot jasmine tea
- Lettuce wraps
- Just about any of their other curries
Beyond the food, the atmosphere and decor is really cool. You can choose to sit inside of these cylindrical tubes.
The staff is always eager to give good suggestions of you're stuck on what to order and are very friendly.
This is is definitely one of the best restaurants in the Burgh.
